BAMoff Talk: Mozart, the violin and the symphony – conversation coordinated by Fabio Sartorelli

Mozart’s love for the violin was profound but intermittent. He was only a boy when, while listening to his father Leopold play this instrument, he was struck by the irresistible fascination of the music. After becoming a violinist, he passionately dedicated himself to it by composing as many as five concerts before the age of 20.

However, his interests were concentrated elsewhere during the decade he spent in Vienna, in particular to the piano and, after years of silence, to the symphony during the summer of 1788. He composed a good three symphonies in only a few weeks’ time for reasons unbeknownst to us. Who knows? Perhaps shortly afterwards his ardour for the violin would have returned, but there was not enough time as death took it away with him too soon.

They wanted to enjoy his music in heaven as well.

The great Maestro Sartorelli will guide us, as usual, in the magic, comprehension and in-depth analysis of the programme of the must-attend concert on Sunday with the immortal music of W. A. Mozart taking centre stage.

Registration will open in the weeks to come, so stay tuned!
